International Scholars Deliver Sustainability Lectures and Explore Future Collaboration

The International University of Sarajevo (IUS) had the pleasure of hosting two distinguished academics, Prof. Dr. Murat Kucukvar from the Daniels College of Business, University of Denver (USA), and Prof. Dr. Burak Şen from Kadir Has University (Türkiye) and Co-Founder & Managing Partner at Splusm LLC, in November 2025. Their visit marked an important step in strengthening academic cooperation, with a particular focus on sustainability, applied research, and innovation.

During their visit, both professors met with IUS Rector, Prof. Dr. Ali Osman Kuşakcı, who welcomed them to the university and discussed opportunities for future collaboration. They also met with professors from the Faculty of Business and Administration (FBA) and the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS), where they exchanged ideas on joint research initiatives, teaching cooperation, and long-term collaboration in the field of sustainability.

As part of their visit, the professors delivered guest lectures to Master’s and Ph.D. students of the Faculty of Business and Administration (FBA). Prof. Dr. Kucukvar presented a lecture titled “Carbon Footprint Accounting and Management: The Business Case.” Students of the Financial and Managerial Accounting course attended the session and actively engaged in discussion, asking questions and showing strong interest in how sustainability integrates into modern accounting and business decision-making. The lecture also opened a dialogue on possible future research collaborations in the areas of carbon footprint measurement, sustainable business practices, and the role of accounting in supporting environmental goals.

Prof. Dr. Şen delivered a lecture titled “Applied Research for a Sustainable Future: Insights from Battery Innovation and Sustainability Reporting.” Students from the courses International Business Environment and Advanced Topics in Management attended his talk. They welcomed the opportunity to learn about developments in battery innovation, the role of applied research in sustainability, and the importance of transparent reporting. The session sparked numerous questions and lively discussion, demonstrating students’ strong interest and engagement.

The visit of Prof. Dr. Kucukvar and Prof. Dr. Şen reinforced IUS’s commitment to international cooperation and to promoting sustainability-focused education and research. The university looks forward to developing further joint initiatives in the near future.
