IUS Professor Joseph J. Kaminski’s Book Published in Albanian Translation

The International University of Sarajevo (IUS) is pleased to announce that the book Islam, Liberalism, and Ontology: A Critical Re-evaluation (Routledge, 2021), authored by IUS Professor of Political Science and International Relations, Prof. Dr. Joseph J. Kaminski, has been translated into Albanian and published by Logos-A, based in Skopje, North Macedonia, one of the leading Albanian-language publishers of academic books.

Published under the title Islami, Liberalizmi dhe Ontologjia: Një Rivlerësim Kritik, the 434-page Albanian edition was translated by Arjol Guni. The book examines the philosophical foundations of Islam and liberalism, arguing that their underlying assumptions about the nature of reality, moral knowledge, and the relationship between religion and the secular world differ in fundamental ways. It also explores the implications of these differences for contemporary Muslim societies and the prospects for political coexistence.

The Albanian translation represents an important opportunity to introduce Professor Kaminski’s research to a wider readership and contribute to ongoing intellectual debates concerning Islam, liberalism, and political philosophy in Albanian-speaking academic and intellectual circles. He has been invited to Prishtina for a public book launch in early December.

Professor Kaminski's next book, Islamicate Public Reason: Islamic Normativity, Political Judgement, and Democratic Pluralism, which is under contract with Oneworld Academic, is expected to appear in print in Fall 2027. Building on his earlier research, the forthcoming book explores how Islamic normative commitments can inform alternative models of public reasoning, political participation, and democratic pluralism in contemporary Muslim-majority societies.
